Even though we rarely saw or heard from him since he retired almost 13 years ago, I liked knowing he was still with us. He was a class act and I'll miss him.
RIP, Johnny. Even though everyone is saying it, he was one of a kind. I'm glad that he had a good, long retirement... though I would have liked to have seen him a few times since he left the Tonight Show.
It was a piece of my childhood - remember when you were finally old enough to stay up and watch it? :)
I do remember feeling all grown up when I got to watch Carson! While I missed him after he moved on (Leno sucks), I like the fact that he broke away from TV after he left his show. His work speaks for itself.
I agree. The guy was original, all-American. I remember reading at some point that they tried to port the show to the UK, but it didn't make the cultural transition. Seems the Brits just didn't get his humor.
