Friday Creature

Gosh! I blew out of the house in such a hurry this morning, I forgot all about posting a picture until smijer's cats reminded me a few minutes ago. Fortunately, I have a photo ready, leftover from the trip up to Rugby a couple of weekends ago. This turkey was hanging out with the Mennonites in Muddy Pond, along with a bunch of chickens that live in an old school bus. He's quite the impressive bird! (While the link goes to an entry for the wild turkey, I suspect this is the domestic variety.)
As always, don't forget the other critters on the ark!

We're expecting a snow/ice/rain/sleet mix this evening and into tomorrow... I'll keep you posted...
Have a good weekend!

UPDATE: There's a nice series of bird photos from Austin Country Limits here, here and here.

Oh my goodness! Thanks for the link to the Austin Spirit Blog! :D

Between you and the Austin blogger, I'm thinking that it's getting pretty essential for me to get that camera up and running.

(oh, and don't forget, Ben Franklin wanted said turkey as our national bird, rather than the rapacious eagle. Wonder what that would've done to our empire-building tendencies, to have the turkeeeee as our national bird?)

That blogger used to have an East Tennessee blog, before moving to Austin. It's nice to see another part of the country, though I do miss the photos of this area.

I wanted to blog about the Cedar Waxwings, which are congregating in my neighborhood and pooping mightily, on everything, overnight. One of my neighbors had the misfortune to park under a tree. From the looks of things, they are really into fruit (probably the Japanese ligustrum berries.)

they are beautiful birds. It was wonderful to see them this morning, as the first light of dawn was striking them, all rosy.

No camera available.
