Friday Creature

I've posted a photo of the red-bellied woodpecker before, but the brilliant colors here just blew me away so I had to share. I hope they come through for you -- I'm still working out saturation issues and playing around with post-processing. The photo dates from the middle of the summer when I was visiting family in West Virginia. As always, if one bird leaves you hungry for more, head over to the ark for a bigger critter fix!

The TACA Craft Fair will be in Chattanooga this weekend and has once again secured a beautiful weather forcast for the occasion. Perhaps I'll see you local folks over there...

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

UPDATE: Here are some absolutely beautiful bird photos from Mike, who is visiting Vegas.

Very nice. The hummers stopped coming by about 3 or 4 days ago here. I still have the feeder out for any slow pokes tho. I miss them already.

Now that I think about it, I think I saw one hummingbird yesterday or the day before, but I haven't seen any since. Last night was pretty chilly (I had to put a blanket on the bed for the first time since spring!), so I guess even the stragglers have bugged out. Their timing is pretty good -- there's nothing happening down in or along the Gulf at the moment and it appears that nothing is brewing: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Whoops! I take that back! Tropical Depression #19 just appeared and #20 may be forming! They'd better hurry!

Your pictures are absolutely beautiful. I only wish I could take photos that prestine, especially of moving animals and birds.
