And here I've been thinking of McCarthy as a dead guy because I always thought he was a curmudgeon to cause so much pain. Now that I know he lived a good 50 years after the era named after him, I wonder what it was like to be him.
Oh, d'oh!, I knew that. Sheesh. If I was easily embarrassed, I'd be blushing now (and never sign with my full name). But both have Joseph in their name and both were senators, so that may explain the brainfart. ;-)

You're thinking of Joseph McCarthy, but this is Eugene McCarthy -- much nicer guy. The McCarthyism McCarthy died in 1957... his wiki entry
