Dana Reeve...

Oh, this is just so sad. I'm very surprised by this news -- I was under the impression she was successfully fighting her cancer.

Indeed. I loved both Dana and Christopher Reeve so much. When Scooter was sick, I bought his book Nothing is Impossible for inspiration. I ended up buying a dozen more because and giving it to my friends and relatives for Christmas.

The Reeves gave so many hope and encouragement in the worst of times. My heart goes out to their children. This is so very tragic for them.

It seems I am getting sadder and sadder about Dana Reeve today. My heart is heavy because of the whole ordeal seems so unfair, her son has lost both parents now. Dana was a super advocate for the handicapped.

Remember the magazine "Rosie" a magazine put out by Rosie O'Donnel? It was a great magazine until Rosie wanted to put Christopher Reeve on the cover. Rosie knew what a great guy he was and how important they both were to the disabled communnity. The publishing company refused to allow it, and Rosie quit the magazine over that.

Remember how Rosie was villified and portrayed as a lesbian nut after that? God it was terrible. The real shame was the magazine corporation and how they would not portray a famous man with a disability.

He wrote in his book how his accident enriched his life because he saw truth, love and quality relationships like he had never seen in his earlier life. Dana and Chris gave everyone who had the unthinkable happen to them and their loved ones, a reason to continue. Here is the last paragraph in the book:

When the unthinkable happens, the lighthouse is hope. Once we find it, we must cling to it with absolute determination, much as our crew did when we saw the light of Gibb's Hill that October afternoon. Hope must be as real, and built on the same solid foundation, as a lighthouse; in that way it is different from optimism or wishful thinking. When we have hope, we discover powers within ourselves to make sacrifices to endure, to heal and to love. Once we choose hope, everything is possible. We are all on this sea together. But the lighthouse is always there, ready to show us the way home.
