Friday Creature

This is a photo from the end of last year's hummingbird season, but it apparently could have been current. I was gazing out my window a few minutes ago and something briefly caught my eye that was moving a lot like a hummingbird. Surely, I thought, it's too early in the year for hummingbirds! I clicked over to the migration map, and lo and behold -- they have indeed arrived!

Isn't it amazing (maybe scary is the better word)? The hummingbirds are out up here too. I never thought I'd be making sugar nectar in mid-April, but that's on the project list for today.

It seems incredible! I checked some previous years' migration maps, though, and this is not especially early, at least by recent standards...
