What's up with Kennedy?

First there was a report this morning indicating Rep. Patrick Kennedy was involved in a suspicious car accident during the night but claimed he "consumed no alcohol prior to the incident." Now CNN is reporting that he has entered rehab. But he's blaming the accident on disorientation caused by ambien and phenergan -- so why's he need to be treated for substance abuse? Someone isn't getting this story right...

Maybe he's abusing the ambien and the phenergan...

I'm pretty sure phenergan is not an oral medication. If he's abusing that, he does have a problem. But I suppose he could be hooked on ambien. It can cause the memory loss he claims to have suffered and it can be addictive. I just thought the story was pointing elsewhere...

What? Alcohol? No. Impossible...

...and to think that the media would cover for him. Again, not likely. He is, after all, a politician, and the media is always up front about politicians.

Sorry, I was in Bermuda for a second there...

Both drugs are used for treating sleep disorders.

Here's another report that includes sidebar information.

This just in: today's C-SPAN alert email (did I just admit that I get c-span email?!? what a dork!) says that they will air a statement from Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) tonight at 8:05pm. I probably won't be near a tv at that time, so someone let me know what's up...

Ambien can cause sleep-walking, sleep-eating, and sleep-driving.

The guy doesn't need rehab. He needs a different med. All this came out recently - some folks have gained over 100 lbs from sleep eating while on Ambien.

Oops. Or was it Ativan? Someone help me here...

I think the people who come up with the names for this stuff intentionally try to confuse us. I don't take anything stronger than iron supplements, though, so I haven't a clue.

Well, I did a google search, and it is indeed ativan. Check out this woman's posting: http://www.websciences.org/bisleep/discussions/basic/messages/msgs15395.html

It comes in both oral pill and injectible forms. I've had both in combination with pain killers. I've taken the pills with hydrocodone for kidney stones and the combo just makes me really sleepy. When I had the stuff with morphine in an IV drip, it knocked me out but then I woke up and started hallucinating.

Phenergan is also used as an anti-emetic (anti-vomiting) medication, and yes, it does come in an injectable form as well as an oral pill. My husband had a horrible stomach virus a couple of years ago and that is what the doc gave him. It will make you really sleepy. I don't know about hallucinating....I think that was probably more the morphine!! What a combo though!

Perhaps he really was drunk (http://www.drudgereport.com/flash3.htm). The Capitol Police were not allowed to do a sobriety test on him, which is usually normal procedure. Seems to be a little odd for the supervisors to not allow the test to be carried out. Sounds like a cover up to me. Of course, most people on here probably wouldn't believe that and call me a nut job.

I think the chance that Kennedy was drunk and/or there was a coverup is about the same as the likelihood that Cheney was drunk and/or there was a coverup when he shot that dude in the face.
