While G-Dog and I are really enjoying our temporary home (and neighborhood!), we are continuing our search for a permanent residence. We went out looking today and now I have some advice for people who are trying to sell real estate:
1. If you want to sell your house, do whatever it takes to get rid of the smell of cat piss and by all means, let the prospective buyers look at more than three rooms (and don't tell them that they can't see the rest of the house because "that's where all my animals live").
2. If you're currently renting out your house to someone who runs a drug/alcohol rehab facility, make sure everyone is out of bed and dressed before the prospective buyers show up.
3. If you're going to try to FSBO (sell it yourself), free yourself from any commitments -- like your job and picking up your kids from school -- that might make it difficult for prospective buyers to actually look at your home without you rushing them out of the house. If your job/kids/pets do interfere with your ability to show your house yourself, then hire a freakin' realtor already. Oh, and it's probably best to avoid showing the house while your baby is taking her nap.
Yeah...
This was the weirdest day I've ever spent shopping for a home.

There are a few houses for sale around the 'hood, you know -- all through a realtor. :-)
Yikes, what a mess. I'm sure some FSBO deals work out, but in almost every case I've seen, the owners finally relent and hire a professional (who then has to clean up the yard, try to rid smells, etc., just to attract some interest).
Believe it or not, the first two houses did have realtors! Only the last one was a FSBO.
In my experience, too, those do-it-yourselfers almost always end up hiring a realtor (who then pulls the price of the house out of the stratosphere and into reasonable territory)...
