I was going to just append this to my previous post about The Golden Compass, where I've already added a couple of articles with others weighing in, but was surprised to see that the entry was almost two weeks old already! So anyway, here's where The Little Professor opines on what has since become a full-blown controversy. It's a good read.
So, has anyone see the film yet?
UPDATE: here's another good commentary.

We saw it today. I'd never read the book, and had only read your posts, so I was expecting a movie where they put babies on spikes in the name of satan. But it was really fantastic. All the press about the authors dislike of the catholic church has nothing to do with the movie.
Sure it an extended metaphor, and it's not hard to hear 'church' for 'magisterium', but a kid won't know the difference between the magisterium and the evil galactic empire, or voldemort. It's a good vs. evil story with a nifty gadget. I loved every minute of it.
But you're in love with the book, so none of the above may apply to you.
Did the movie make you want to read the book? If so, I'd be glad to share! And if not, did I make you want to read the book? If so, I'd be glad to share! Really, you should read this book. It's beautiful.
Thanks for the review!
I've already ordered the trilogy! I could tell the movie was condensed and I figured if I liked it, I'd love the books.
Oh, you're going to have a good holiday. You'll be loving some His Dark Materials!
I'm jealous!
