Iowa

I can't believe it's already time for the Iowa caucuses! Tomorrow evening, some of the most well-informed voters in the country will gather by precinct and pick their candidates. How much they will influence the rest of us has yet to be seen.

I don't get to vote until the first week of next month, and I'm still am not 100% sure of who will get my support, but if I were caucusing tomorrow, I'd be making a case for John Edwards. He's rhetoric is substantial and he's not just feeding us campaign pap, but rather is really debating issues such as the Iraq War, health care, education and climate change. Of all the candidates, he's the only one I've heard talking about the myth of self-regulation -- he knows that with shareholders looking so closely at the bottom line, corporations need help when it comes to being good citizens.

Most importantly, though, is that Edwards represents change -- something different from what we've gotten in Washington so far this century. And while all of the Democratic candidates are good people -- and are not Bush -- I think Edwards will give us the most contrast from the current crop of greedy corporate politicians.

Oh, and let's not forget one of the best things about John Edwards: Elizabeth!

Here are just a few of the bloggers who have made the case for Edwards:

Pensito Review

Scholars and Rogues

Bleeding Heartland

Agonist.org

D-Day

Beyond that, Edwards has collected plenty of endorsements, plus, anyone who gets under the skin of a frothing nutjob like Bill O'Reilly must be doing something right!

By the way, do you know when you get to cast a ballot? Here's a great map/calendar for primaries and caucuses. And are you sure your registration is up to date? You can check it here!

I support Edwards, too. His statement about the unions being the biggest creator of the middle class in the U.S. is true. Both, he and Elizabeth, are talking about the Democratic issues: peace, healthcare, and curbing greedy corporations. Hillary represents more war and helping corporate interests. If she did not have the Clinton name, she would not be where she is today.

I must say that John is doing quite well and things look promising for him tomorrow night.

Despite having a fraction of the financial resources of his two biggest competitors, John is running neck-and-neck with Clinton and Obama. The reason is that, like Alice said in her post, there is heart to what John Edwards says. He's the only person who talks substantively about poverty and strengthening the middle class.

He was the first candidate to speak out early and often about climate change and real health care reform, offering by far the boldest proposals on issues that I've seen from any candidate.

Edwards is winning over Iowans with his promise to fight. That's all people want right now; someone who will take problems head-on, not back down.

I love when John talks about the Democratic Party needing leaders who will "show a little back bone" and stand up for common people.

And I think he's the closest we'll get to that.

An Edwards victory tomorrow night is a huge win for average people like me.

Who knows where this is going. Edwards' platform plays well with Iowa Dems and Labor oriented Independents so he may do well there. Obama and Clinton have him beat with "style" points - Obama being hipper than any other candidate and Clinton having the leadership background to ease the worry factor for some.

I'm glad to have things moving finally. The sooner this election happens the better - I tired of the campaign already and we've got eleven months to go...

What leadership does Clinton have? She was a First Lady and is a Senator for 8 years now. Obama has more legislative experience. Hillary's experience as a First Lady doesn't give her any edge on leadership. She did not have a security clearance even some interns have that. She wasn't on speaking terms with her hubby in the end of the WH years. In my opinion, Hillary has exaggerated her resume.

Obama's my man, but I have a lot of respect for Edwards - he's just not quite what I'm after this time around. It's great to have such a strong field to choose from - must suck to be a Republican this year...

Btw, O'Reilly's "endorsement" is a very persuasive reason to support Edwards.
