Another Republican Retirement

This one is in my home house district* -- New York's 26th congressional district -- and the seat, which has been held for five terms by Tom Reynolds, will have no incumbent in November's election. Reynolds is BFF with Dick Cheney, who helped him keep his district strongly Republican in the 2000 redistricting. Reynolds also participated in the coverup when Mark Foley was preying on congressional pages (and, shockingly, he contributed to Foley's reelection campaign even after he found out about Foley's creepy conduct with young boys). He also has a very poor record of management.

So, yeah -- Tom, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. No matter what, chances are pretty good that whoever wins in November (George Maziarz? Jack Davis? Jon Powers? Alice Kryzan?) will be a huge improvement -- and despite Cheney's efforts, the seat could possibly fall to the Democrats.

*well, sort of... when I was living there, Batavia, NY was in the 39th, 37th, and then 35th congressional districts. After I moved away, the town spent some time in the 30th and then 27th districts before landing, in 2003, in the 26th congressional district, where it remains today.

Great! Dems need to take Congress by more than 51-50.
