Blu-ray has arrived!

Blu-ray may have won the format war when it knocked HD-DVD off the market earlier this year, but it was still just boring tech news until this week when Neil Young made it cool.

Man, I can remember Neil talking about "hating CDs" back in an interview in "CD Review" back in 1990, and talking way back THEN about wanting to release his enormous archives in a better format. I stopped being excited about it in, like, 2000, thinking it would never happen.

I might buy a Blu-Ray player now. Of course, will we have to get them for our cars, too?

And to think, I don't even have my DVD player or TV hooked up right now. I do have a DVD in my PC, does that count?

Blu-ray? I think I'll pass that one by, too. ;)

Bill, I've stopped trying to keep up with the formats, and let my computer do it for me. I have a mac mini (and a hard drive) in the living room that's connected to the receiver and uses our big TV as a monitor. It plays everything, so no more keeping up with the format changes. I've got no DVD player, no CD player -- all I have to do is upgrade the mac mini every couple three years. And for the car, all you need is a mp3 player -- no need to keep up there, either.

I haven't tried Blu-ray on the mac mini yet, though, so I don't know if it'll work (I suspect I'll have to wait for an upgrade). Neil's release is the first Blu-ray disc that has attracted any interest from me, so I haven't been following the Blu-ray news (until now)...
