I don't really know much more than you see. I was looking for the bathroom in a huge, beautiful restaurant at Topkapı Palace. I went around a corner, and almost ran into this arrangement of bottles on a table.
Oh, no. This was a really fancy place with very nice western-style bathrooms. I only encountered the hole-in-the-floor type occasionally, and never was one my only option. Of course, we stuck to touristy areas -- I imagine if one were to stray off the beaten path, a sense of adventure would come in handy when dealing with the WC. ;-)
