... for this photo of my mother in Oslo just a few years ago. She always appreciated the fact that Norwegians throw a big party every year for her birthday and she got to visit the country several times over the years, as part of her many travel adventures.

Ah, yes, the "guard". Special duty, that, for soldiers. It's something that if you get selected for such an elite troup, you have bragging rights for life. (They guard the royal family and it looks like your mother is at the palace.) My boss was in "garden", as we say.
It's a delightful photo - wonderful contrast between stern guard and happy tourist and their respective headgear. :-)
