Barack Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, the woman who he largely credits with getting him where he is today, died early this morning (last night, Hawaii time) after a long battle with cancer. It's a shame she didn't make it to learn the outcome of the election, but certainly she already had a lot in which to take pride.

It made me incredibly sad to think that this woman, who I don't know, won't get to see her grandson become the first black president.
