I haven't gotten to go on a photo hunt yet, but I did need some paint recently and found this little bird sitting on the carts outside of Lowe's. Finch? Sparrow? You tell me.
Have a great weekend, everyone, and check out the creatures on the ark at some point!

Perhaps she's doing some holiday shopping? :-)
What a great photo! I suspect I'm even worse than you when it comes to bird identification, but it looks like a sparrow to me...
I'd have delved a little deeper here if I wasn't on a dial-up - http://www.americanbirdguide.com/.
Incidentally, how close did you get to take the picture? I've been trying to take pictures of a couple of the more tropical-looking birds in my yard, but I'm finding it next to impossible and very frustrating.
I was maybe 10 feet away (just a wild guess -- far enough away so I didn't spook it). I have a long lens on my camera and I zoomed in with that, started back a ways and then inched closer with each of my 3 or 4 shots until I finally got too close and the bird flew off.
I haven't had too much luck shooting birds in the wild, but back at my old house I had all kinds of fun getting bird shots though a window. I had a couple of feeders set up on one side of the window, and the camera on a tripod on the other side of the window. Even though I didn't have much of a zoom back then, I still managed to get lots of cool bird pics with that setup, which let me get relatively close to the birds.
Great shot! Looks like a female European/house sparrow to me. Sparrows are darned hard to photograph, IME.
The english sparrow isnt a true sparrow but is realy a kind of weaver finch
