The 80s blockbuster director who more recently preferred the shadows died today at the fairly youthful age of 59. He made a lot of people into stars and delivered some fine cinema in his heyday. I assume this means we can look forward to a John Hughes marathon or two this weekend.
(This summer continues to be devastating to 80s cultural icons!)

Did not hear about this. I hope we do get a John Hughes marathon - the cinema of my youth.
I watched The Breakfast Club last night -- what a great film. I was looking over Hughes's body of work the other day and was shocked at how extensive it was. No wonder he burned out!
