Jet Lagged Thoughts

Germany was good. Really good. It was a fun, thought-provoking trip that made me want to learn more about the cities I visited -- Berlin, especially (a city in search of "normal"). I haven't figured out yet how I'm going to roll out this trip, but I suspect it's going to be slowly, as there was a lot to take in, and with all that was going on before I left town, my pre-trip prep was minimal.

Since I've gotten home, I've felt very fortunate. Lucky to have slipped by that volcano twice (coming and going)! And to have the opportunity for travel in the first place. A husband who is a great companion. A wonderful daughter (a college graduate!) who stayed with the dog and took care of the house. A gorgeous spring day, and the luxury to spend it at home, not worrying about the jet lag while doing lots of laundry, taking the dog for a couple of neighborhood walks, playing in the yard and kitchen -- and this evening, giving my poor feet some much needed TLC after two weeks of constant abuse.

I love that I cook extra food and freeze it. We didn't get home until close to midnight yesterday and the last thing I wanted was to have to head out today and make a big trip to the grocery store. But there was bread and bean soup in the freezer, so after a bit of morning thawing, we were able to eat a healthy home-made lunch. This afternoon, I rode my bike over to the grocery to pick up a few things, but I was able to put off the major shopping until I can go to the farmers market tomorrow afternoon.

Oh, and the gorgeous spring day. It was cool and sunny, with enough of a breeze so that the fragrance from the blossoming jasmine out back was constantly floating in the air as G-Dog and I cleaned up the yard. And then Nonnie and I wandered about the neighborhood, and she ran in a nearby clover-filled field that was peppered with bright red flowering bushes before we headed back home, past a once-again spouting fountain (after a dry, dormant winter).

Before I finished up outside, I cut off a few sprigs of jasmine and put them in a vase (made by my potter friend, Jeff!), so even now, with the house closed up for the evening, the air is still filled with a lovely springtime aroma. Even though I'm really tired (I woke up early this morning, my body apparently under the impression that it was the middle of the afternoon), I'm very content. Tomorrow the reentry process will begin, but today was all about just enjoying the moment, and this lovely home and the people, fauna and flora that surround me here.

UPDATE: oh, and it keeps getting better. I just found some dark chocolate truffles in the freezer (leftovers from the big graduation shindig). Woot! :-D

Welcome home, Alice. Missed you and look forward to seeing the pics of your trip. I need to get your snail mail address.

What a lovely welcome home! Wasn't it weird taking an overseas trip without Emmie?

It was very weird! Though it was nice knowing that Nonnie wasn't languishing at the kennel all that time -- especially since it was a longer trip than we usually take!
