great blue heron. I love these very regal and brave birds, who will let a person with a camera creep surprisingly close!

Granted, the heron is standing, but Otis Redding's song was the first thing that popped into my head - besides, "ooh, he has a spot on his shoulder". The bird, I mean, not Otis.

I like the way his feet are hanging off the side of the dock -- and all of the soft drapey feathers!
There are so many great details in this picture, Alice, including the reflection of another pier, the textures and colors of the bird, etc. So I repeat: Great pic! :-)
