Happy Friday, everyone! I'm bringing you a repeat this week -- same great blue heron as last Friday, only this time zoomed in a bit, with a bit of sun on his/her beak. I just can't get enough of these birds!
I hope everyone has great weekend plans! Mine are to lay low and enjoy a rare quiet few days -- maybe do a bit of cooking, some puttering around the house, playing in the dirt outside... I dunno (I will check out the Friday ark at some point, though!)... Have a good one!

You know, it just occurred to me: Is this bird in the path of the oil spill? The devastation of nature is heart-breaking.
It might be. According to the noaa's current trajectory maps or google's tracking, the oil is not there yet, but I imagine it will get there. On the other hand, this particular photo was taken at this spot (approx. 27°30′35″N 82°42′57″W or 27.509782, -82.715852), which you'll see if you pan out a bit, is pretty well protected from the greater Gulf of Mexico. There's no telling how much of the oil will work its way past the barrier islands and into the Bay, but if this bird stays put, it might be ok.
Oil seems to be able to work its way past anything. The good news is that ocean activity does break it down. It's the stuff that makes it ashore that is the more long-term problem.
