A neighbor here has nasturtiums still braving the shorter days. That's really what gets the plants: Not enough light. The temperature has been doable.
Conversely, some of the lushest gardens in Norway are the ones you find north of the arctic circle in the summer: 24 hours of daylight makes for a lot of growing!
Our porch is on the north side of the house, so it never gets a lot of light at any time of year, so we always keep shade-loving flowers in our planters. It will be interesting to see how far into the winter these pansies will last.
