Friday Food Photo

After the week we've had, there was so much food to choose from for today's picture. Christmas Eve dinner was a fantastic caramelized tofu & brussels sprouts dish that we were trying for the first time.

Christmas dinner started with a vegetarian french onion soup; then featured a Sequatchie Cove Farm rump roast, yorkshire pudding, sweet & sour eggplant with rice, a huge potato kugel, and a green bean casserole; and we finished with home made truffles for dessert.

But we weren't done yet! Because the next day, we had people come in from out of town for a few days' visit, so we went from there to a burrito bar, pasta, and finally, a pizza dinner. It was a culinary whirlwind!

But in the end, there was an obvious choice for the first food porn after Christmas: the yorkshire pudding. The food that must be there if it's Christmas. This is the food that inspired Emmie to write an entire research paper while she was an undergrad. The other dishes may vary (some years, the beast is a rib roast, and the sides change depending on what's available at market), but there is always a yorkshire pudding.

This year, G-Dog made two -- the traditional pudding, using the juices from the roast beast, but also an experimental vegetarian version, made with a very dark veggie broth we concocted the day before. Both were delicious.
