CARTA Diaries: The real Chattanooga

A few stops from where I’d gotten on, a clean-cut gentleman in good jeans and a fleece pullover got on the bus. He sat down in the first seat available and was holding a piece of paper with directions written on it that had been folded many times. He settled somewhat nervously into his seat, looking all around out the windows, admiring the old Albemarle Apartments on McCallie Avenue as we drove by.
"This is my first time in Chattanooga," the new rider said. The driver asked him where he was from, and he explained that he had come up from North Georgia, but had grown up near Atlanta.
