A while back, I saw an exchange between some local folks on the Internet, which started with one person asking if anyone could tell him where to get local eggs and meat. He was directed to a few local farmers markets, and several people suggested that he try getting a farm share. His response was that he wasn't interested in getting a vegetable share because he'd end up with a lot that he wouldn't know what to do with.
I was filled with sympathy. I’ve had a farm share since 2008, and especially in that first year, a lot of the things I found in my weekly basket were mystifying to me. Even now, the wonderful farmers I work with still manage to throw me a curveball once in a while. The thing is, though, I don't mind doing the research and figuring out what to do with the mystery produce. I like solving riddles while playing around in the kitchen. I figured I could help this guy! But I thought instead of assaulting this one particular person with unsolicited advice, I might instead assume that there are plenty more out there with the same problem and that maybe some of them might end up here, reading this column.
