Wielding power

Those who have it need to be called upon to use it. And all this pussy-footing around has to stop. That's what the chattabloggers who had political commentary to offer today had to say, anyway. Now that the Republicans no longer have a lock on power in DC, we were hoping to finally see some oversight and accountability.

Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?

Whiner today, Republican tomorrow!

Oh, this is too good... egalia over at TGW has pointed us to a study that has found that confident, resilient, self-reliant kids mostly grow up to be liberals.
With good parenting, we wouldn't have any Republicans. Heh.

At the risk of sounding like a braggart, I'd just like to say that all my children are bleeding heart liberals. Yeah, no whiners!

According to the study, whiny insecure kids grow up to be "rigid" Republicans who follow "traditional gender roles" and are "uncomfortable with ambiguity." That's about as good a description of Bushie as you can find.

And liberals? "[C]onfident, resilient, self-reliant kids" mature into liberals, or "bright, non-conforming adults with wide interests."

And this is not the first study to conclude that miserable children turn into conservatives.
It all just makes so much sense! ;-D

Blogging from Nashville

I'm up in Nashville today at the (wi-fi enabled) DFT convention. Bob Tuke (pictured), the new chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party is here, and I got to meet egalia of TN Guerilla Women and Paul from Bully Pulpit. Sandy of hamdems.org and Stella Blue from Rats in a Cage are here as well. Hopefully I'll come back with lots of ideas for building the grassroots at the local level... for now I'd better get back to it...

Hamdems ROCK!

Hey, kids -- the Hamilton County Democratic Party has a blog up on their new web site and it's the shiznit (and no, I'm not at all biased :-) Why would you even ask?)! Check it out [outdated link redacted]. Content from the old site will be slowly migrating over to the new site as it is brought up-to-date, so check back often!

Walking the Walk

Now's your chance, folks. If you've ever complained about the state of local politics and you tend to the left side of the political spectrum, it's time to put your Saturday morning where your mouth is. The Hamilton County Democratic Party reorganization is this coming Saturday. Come, bring your friends, family, relatives and anyone you pass on the street. The better the turnout, the greater the chance that we'll be able to change the political landscape here in Chattanooga.

You'll need to bring a photo ID that includes your voting address (a voter registration card would be good, too) and try to be there by 10am. Registration is from 9 to 10:30, and no one will be admitted late. After registration, everyone will caucus and elect a chairman, co-chairman and 2 captains for each precinct (these people make up the Executive Committee). Then this newly-elected Executive Committee will convene to elect the Executive Council, which will lead the party for the next two years.

If you want to have an influence over how politics is played in this county, help out a candidate who will be running for office, set the stage for a successful presidential campaign in 2008, get to know some local movers and shakers, or even just get to know more about the process, this is a great way to get involved. If you'd like to know more, please feel free to comment or email me and I'll see if I can hook you up with some info before Saturday.

This is a good sign!

Perhaps there's hope for the Democrats afterall.

From Wonkette:
LocalDem (9:37:01 PM): just got a phone call from XXXXXXXX at the DNC meeting
LocalDem (9:37:16 PM): apparently its the biggest boozefest he's ever seen
LocalDem (9:37:29 PM): terry mac made a drunken speech
WonketteOperative (9:37:32 PM): hahhahahahaha
LocalDem (9:37:41 PM): and donna brazille gave a speech where she used the word motherfucker multiple times
LocalDem (9:37:46 PM): its completely closed press
LocalDem (9:37:47 PM): and open bar

What?!? No press whores? Booze? Swearing? What next? Fun, perhaps?

UPDATE: Whoops. Apparently, the source on that story was so drunk he/she was hallucinating. Sorry for putting misinformation out there. Teach me to trust a gossipy lush! ;-)
