I don't have a holiday creature this week -- we never have been able to get the dog to wear even a hat, and she's certainly not going to let us tie a branch to her head in a Grinch-esque fashion, so instead I have a bug. I thought we were through with them for the year, but I almost stepped on this one as I was coming down the stairs this week.

Good thing you didn't step on her - that's a yellow jacket wasp, and they sting like a mutha! I generally like wasps, as they eat things that I would rather not have around, but give yellow jackets a *very* wide berth. That being said, if I saw them building a nest in a high-traffic area, I'd be sure to get rid of it. Too dangerous, especially if you have any friends/family members who are allergic.
All that being said, very nice pic.
It's a very good thing I didn't step on her, since I'm always barefoot in the house. I've been stung on the foot before and was laid up for days afterwards because of the swelling.
