Turkey Travelogue: Miletus

Only two more ruins to go, and then I'll show you some modern Turkey. Our next stop was
Miletus
, which wasn't far from Priene and since it still has quite a bit of structure left, it was lots of fun to explore.


Here is the inevitable theatre. You can see in this photo and in the first one (above) that the hallway above the first section of seats is still intact in places.


This is the view from inside one of those passages.


You can see on the left of this picture is a mosque. Emmie went over to check it out and found lots of storks.


The road that passes in front of the ionic stoa at right is the Sacred Way, which runs from Miletus to Didyma (our next stop!).


Miletus, like Priene, once sat on a harbor that has been moved westward by the sediment from the Maeander River, giving the area some very fertile (and flat!) farm land.

Those are some fantastic ruins to poke around in!

I never thought about storks in Turkey. I think I'm beginning to realize I don't know anything about Turkey.
