We had a hell of a storm this afternoon -- horizontal rain, hail banging on the windows, thunder, lightning, and wind that took down a tree across the street. I took a photo of the tree from my porch moments before it split in the middle:
And just a few minutes later, here is the same tree, halved and laying in the street!

Yikes! Was it a tornado or just a severe thunderstorm?
Looks like a cracker! I love a good storm, but apparently we don't get many down this neck of the woods.
June, I don't think it was a tornado, but who knows? [...] Well, I guess the weather guys know, but I don't watch/read that kind of news. ;-D
Chris, I've heard that about Aussie weather -- I know a guy who recently moved to Tennessee from Oz (for his bride, no less!), and he is really relishing the storms!
I love them, just as long as I'm home, so that I can enjoy the show without worrying -- about the dog freaking out or a window left open, etc...
How'd you know to take a "before" picture? Most folks only get the "after".
I just got lucky! The "before" picture was an attempt to get a picture of the storm and just happened to include the right tree.
