So, are apostrophes just completely random events these days?

If there's an "s" in the vicinity, then why the hell not, huh?

Spot the typo!

This billboard caught my eye this afternoon. It's over at Holtzclaw and Union, right across from the National Cemetery.

Do they teach grammar at Chatt State?

A copy of Chattanooga State's fall course catalog arrived with today's mail. Can you spot the blooper two bloopers (thanks, fletch!)?

How does something like this happen?

This eatery is right around the corner from my current home, so I drive by it quite often. It is really starting to grate on me.
How many different people saw this and gave it the thumbs up before it became this company's offical logo, plastered numerous times all over every franchise in the world?

And it's not even a word.

"Churches," the plural of "church," or "church's," the possesive of "church" are both words, but "churchs" is neither. I don't even know how to say "churchs" -- should one pronounce "church" followed by a hiss, sounding something like a word that leaks? There's only one syllable there, so options are limited as far as pronounciation is concerned.

Did the people who designed, approved and made this sign do it with the knowledge that it's not really a word? Was this supposed to be some sort of stylistic thing? Or did the approval process go through a whole series of people who were oblivious to an error? Someone has since decided that the name of the franchise should be the possesive of "church" -- I checked their web site and they do indeed have an apostrophe in their logo there -- did they realize their error after they'd paid for all those signs, but come up with a cost/benefit analysis that justified leaving the error up there for everyone to see? How much money did they waste on branding and then get stuck with a logo that needs to be replaced asap? Did someone take the fall for this disaster? Is it possible to get insurance that will cover losses due to grammatical illiteracy?

Does anyone else out there consider these sorts of things while you're trapped behind the wheel of a car?

Back!

This is pretty much what most of my weekend looked like. We got an early start on Saturday morning and drove down to Florida for a family gathering that evening. It was a great party and we enjoyed hanging out with many super-cool people from G-Dog's side of the fam. Then this morning (Sunday), after a too-brief post-gathering get-together with same said kin, we made our way back to Chattavegas.

The 7 hours down and 7 hours back gave us plenty of opportunity to enjoy the sights along I-75, mostly in Georgia. Oh, wait... that's right -- if you stay on the interstate, there are no sights. We did watch a trailer on the back of an SUV in the next lane go veering across 3 lanes of traffic on the wheel rim after its tire exploded -- I don't know if that qualifies as a sight, though. And as it turns out, I didn't get to take a whole lot of photos. I saw some nice scenes with interesting light and cool colors, but most of them were racing by at 75 miles an hour. I did take a few action shots, like this picture of one of our fellow travelers, hauling his kill back to Whitfield Co, Georgia.

Even with the tedium of interstate driving, we still enjoyed the ride. The iPod provided background music, and there were plenty of things to observe and discuss along the way. There were a lot more trucks sharing the road with us on Saturday than there were on Sunday. Here's the back of one tractor-trailer. This kind of thing drives me nuts. How many approving people did this sticker pass through in its journey onto the back of that truck -- the creator, proofer, printer, purchaser, applier, and so on -- who either did not notice or did not care about what strikes me as a pretty glaring error?

Anyway, we're glad to be home and happy to have been on a fun adventure over the weekend. It sure did fly by.
