Friday Creature

Whoops. This Friday Creature is brought to you on a Saturday because Friday was nuts. It's a turtle I encountered at the Agora in Athens, and if you look closely, you'll see its little turtle tongue is sticking out!

Friday Creature

Having just returned from the annual trip to visit the fam in both Ohio and western New York, I have quite the backlog of creatures to post. I'll start with the annual shot of my sister-in-law's classroom lizard (she's an elementary school teacher, the dragon summers in her home, and we come through once or twice a year and give the reptile a respectful nod).

If you're checking out the other creatures on the ark in the next few days, be patient -- the "Ark Crew is on the road this weekend," so boardings may be slow! Have a relaxing and wonderful weekend, everyone!

I really need to go off on a photo hunt, because I'm running low on creatures. But I found this guy in the archives -- he apparently got lost in the summer shuffle, because I don't think he's been featured before. I found him in the backyard (no doubt resting after escaping from the fearsome beast who thinks chasing lizards is a sport!).

This week's creature is a lizard I've featured before. He (she?) spends most of the year in my sister-in-law's elementary school classroom and summers at the ole homestead. We stopped in to visit at the end of June and found the lizard to be doing quite well, as always.

We could really use some rain down here, folks, so if you've got any to spare, send it this way! And as always, have a great weekend!

I'm going to do a cleanup post this week and give you all the creatures I have left from my trip (I'm also going to make a push to finish up my travelogue in the next few days). So here are the bugs, reptiles, amphibians and fish of Turkey...

If it's Friday, there must be a creature! Here is a real tangle of reptiles, with an american alligator in the foreground.

Nonnie goes back in for more follow up testing today. She's had her ups and downs in the past week. Hopefully her blood work will show enough improvement to go off the meds, as I can't tell if her troubles have more to do with the disease or the cure.

Friday Creature

I haven't been taking very many photos at all lately, so I'm afraid until the weather gets warmer and less dreary, you'll be seeing lots of creatures from the aquarium. This one is from my December visit, and I searched high and low for information about this particular turtle, but failed to identify it. Maybe someone out there will recognize it.

In other news, Nonnie had follow up blood work done after last week's health problems and she has shown some improvement. She's still anemic, but is making positive progress. We'll just keep doing what we're doing. It's all good.

Finally, brrrr! Hasn't it been cold?!? It's a good thing there are so many warm, fuzzy creatures to help us stay warm!

Happy Friday! This is an alligator from somewhere (seen at the Tennessee Aquarium), but I don't remember the details. Quite the cutie, though, huh?

Well, the whole Christmas season thing is kicking into high gear this weekend -- the calendar is littered with parties! And once the weekend's over, there will be only two weeks left until Christmas! If you've been caught up in the whole shopping culture, the pressure's on now! Of course, if you need to take a break from all that holiday duress, remember, you can check out this week's creatures -- what a great stress reliever! Wow! Such a busy day! TGIF! This week's creature (finally!) is a black-breasted leaf turtle, (another photo from my many recent trips to the Tennessee Aquarium). It's not technically one of my better photos, but I like the way he's turning to look at the camera, as if to say "hi!"

This is Slithery the corn snake and he lives with this boy. I visited them last week, but Slithery wasn't feeling at his best. You can tell, from his cloudy eyes, that he's getting ready to shed his skin.

Gosh! It didn't even occur to me that it was Friday today (it's been like Monday all week long) until I happened by fletch's Friday Bird and Cat blog! So here ya go: I found this guy on a wall by the pool at my hotel when I was in Florida a few weeks ago. Other creatures are already boarding over on the ark, so have at 'em! I hope it's a great weekend for you!

One more photo from Italy. This is a turtle that was living in a pond at Hadrian's Villa outside of Rome.

As promised, this week's creature is not a bird. I have no idea what kind of reptile this is, though. It's a photo taken the last time Emmie and I visited the Tennessee Aquarium, which I think was in the middle of the summer. It's probably about time we went back for another visit, to see what's new and how everyone is coping with the winter weather.
