Friday Creature

You saw this kid in last week's FC post, but that photo co-starred a dog and it just wouldn't feel like summer around here if I didn't put up a picture giving a baby goat center stage.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! There are many more creatures on this week's ark -- go check them out and stay cool!!

Friday Creature

I took this picture at my brother's farm last weekend during the family pow wow. Just moments later, the dog spooked the baby goat, the goat took off, and the dog chased it all the way to its mother.

Have a great weekend, everyone! This week's ark is already afoot!

Friday Creature

This is what I love about traveling. Never in all the time I've ever been riding along a road in the United States have I ever had to stop my vehicle because someone was moving his herd across my path. But this very thing has happened to me a number of times in Europe -- most recently during this summer's trip to Greece. The European countryside is so much more organic than America's.

Well, it's a holiday weekend, folks -- at least, it is if you're in the States (if not, find a grill and a cold six-pack somewhere, and you can pretend!). I picked up some Link 41 brats at the Farmer's Market this week, so we'll be grilling sausages and veggies on the 4th. I hope you've got some yummy food and fun planned as well! Have a safe holiday, everyone (and don't forget to check out this week's ark)!!

Friday Creature

Brrrr. Around here, they call this kind of weather "dogwood winter" -- when we've had some warm weather, so the dogwoods have blossomed, but a cold snap makes it feel a little less like spring than all those blossoms blowing around would have you believe. Which is fine. At least it's progress. Hopefully this will be the last gasp of what has been a really rough winter...

There are many more creatures on this week's ark. This week I'm contributing a goat, bundled up for the chilly weather. Have a great weekend, everyone!!!

Friday Creature

I think this might actually be the first horse I've ever posted for a Friday Creature! I'll have to get the archives back up and running to be sure, but let's just say for now that it is (and if you're looking a the labels, I know a horse is not cattle, but that's where it fits easiest).

Last Sunday, G-Dog and I got to go down and spend the afternoon on a farm in North Georgia, and we found this guy hanging out there. He's a really, really, really old horse -- about 40 years! -- but doesn't seem to be eager to go anywhere. Fortunately, he's well cared for and gets to hang out in some pretty nice digs!

Have a great weekend, everyone! Check out the Friday Ark when you have a chance, try to ignore the opportunism of the gas merchants (and maybe drive a little less), and fergodsake don't bring up Charlie Sheen! Everyone is sick of his sad antics by now! I hope he finds his way into rehab sooner rather than later...

Friday Creature

It seems like these Fridays are coming around faster and faster lately. Didn't we only just do this?

Well, I hope you had a good week and are anticipating an exciting and/or relaxing few days! I'm looking forward to making bread, going to an auction and visiting a friend's farm. It's going to be a busy, fun weekend!

And in the meantime, along with the many other arklettes, I give you one of my brother's goats.

Friday Creature

Welcome to the weekend, everyone! What I'm hoping is that this baby goat is just so cute that it will distract you from the fact that I'm a day late in posting a creature. ;-)

(The Modulator continues the adventure abroad, so still no link for this week.)

Friday Creature

This is my final goat photo -- and quite the agile fellow! Have a great Friday the 13th and a wonderful weekend (don't forget the arkettes)!

Can you believe it's Friday already? As promised, here are more goats. And as always, don't forget to check the ark! Have a fun, safe and fantastic Halloween weekend!

Friday Creature

This week, I'm going to post the first of several pictures of some goats on my brother's farm (all taken this past July at the family gathering). That will be my grand finale in the Creatures From My Summer Travels series. As always, the Friday Ark brings you even more in the critter department! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Friday Creature

Another busy week! Wow! Things do move quickly in the fall! This morning I attended the grand opening celebration of Ivy Academy, one of the two pioneering charter schools that became part of our community this year. I might have some photos from that at some point...

But in the meantime, here's a picture of a horse in Chicago. It's not the greatest photo in the world (I was walking quickly when I snapped it), but I'm sharing it because of the cool water fountain that the horse is using -- it's a such a pretty and creative way to keep the working animals hydrated in the city! Anyway, more photos can be found on this week's Ark! Have a great weekend!

Friday Creature

Sometimes you go to the big city expecting to see skyscrapers and lots of people. But then you find yourself in a pocket of tranquility with some elk (and some awesome bike/running trails)! I love Chicago.

And here were are again, back around to another Friday, complete with the ark! I don't know where the time is racing off to, but this week, I was just trying to hang on. Have a great weekend, everyone! Peace, joy, safety and good heath to you!

Friday Creature

Here's one more goat from the barnyard series. Keera pointed out in an earlier post that goats often look like they're smiling. This one definitely does.

Have a great weekend, folks! As always, if the economy or the Longest Election Ever is getting to you, the creatures on the modulator's ark will be glad to shield you from reality for as long as you care to stay for a visit!

Friday Creature

Last week, Lane_in_PA commented on the slit shape of a goat's iris. That feature is even more prominent in this week's blue-eyed goat, who also lives in my brother's barnyard.

Well, it's been a draining week, so I imagine people around the globe are relieved to have finally made it to the cusp of the weekend. Do yourself a favor, and don't even peak at that bank statement, 401(k), or retirement account. Instead, go check out the creatures on this week's ark. They'll have a much more favorable effect on your mood.

Friday Creature

This week, we're still in my brother's barnyard, but we've turned to goats.

It's actually gotten a little cool here in SE Tennessee, so I'm in the mood for autumnal, cozy things... watch for some comfort food porn this weekend! In the meantime, check out the creatures on this week's ark! Be safe and happy!

Friday Creature

I realized recently that if I post my creature pics from Turkey one at a time, I'll be doing them for the rest of the year. So, starting this week, I'm going to clump them up into categories. Since for the past two weeks, I've posted images of cattle, I'll start with that, and publish the rest of the pictures I caught of grazing creatures in Turkey.

In other news, it's gotten incredibly hot here all of a sudden. Summer really is here, with a vengeance! The talking heads on the teevee tell me that it's going to be a hot few days for a lot of people here in the US, and that these relentless tornadoes will continue to poke at us. Please stay safe, cool and hydrated, and have a wonderful weekend. As usual, the Friday Ark brings you all manner of fauna! And via towleroad, check out this cool image featuring a huge school of rays!

Friday Creature

This is something we saw quite often while driving out in the countryside around İzmir. Cows, sheep and goats are frequently grazed right on the roadside, with cars and trucks whizzing by. These sheep were being tended by an older man, but often I saw animals being watched by youngsters.

Have a happy weekend, everyone! And if you have a chance, check out the last Friday Ark for May!
